Marinara Sauce

Hmmm…I’m not sure if this is an authentic Marinara Sauce….I’m not really sure what Marinara Sauce is…but it sure sounds yummy!

In ‘common’ terms this is the basic tomato sauce that I use as a base for pasta dishes, for pizza bases, for soup and loads more things….

If you’ve recently read my recipe PEPPERONI PIZZA POTATOES you may wish to make this sauce to serve on the side as it complements it perfectly and is absolutely GORGEOUS!!!

Did I mention it’s also super cheap to make? To make the whole batch cost me about 80p. This is going to be used for 3 recipes I have planned this week….so at the moment it’s been popped in a nice clean jar ready for the next time it makes a reappearance (on Friday!)

Basic Marinara (Posh Tomato Sauce)

Saute a chopped onion with 2 cloves of minced garlic

Throw in 2 tins of chopped tomatoes (I use Aldi’s – this week they were just 31p a tin)

Mix it up, sprinkle in some dried mixed herbs, a squeeze of tomato puree and a splash of balsamic vinegar

Add salt and pepper to taste and if you have some a sprinkling of garlic powder

Mix it up and keep tasting, adding bits to taste then take it off the heat and whizz it up a bit with a hand blender

SORTED.
